Shine On
Meister Eckhart, 13th-century mystic, wrote:
All beings
are words of God.
God’s music, God’s
art.
Sacred books we are, for the Infinite camps
in our
souls.
Every act reveals God and expands God’s Being.
I know that may be hard
to comprehend.
All creatures are doing their best
to help God in [Her] birth
of [Herself].
Enough talk for the night.
God is laboring in me:
I need to be silent
for a while,
worlds are forming
in my heart.
“Worlds are forming in my heart” is an absolutely exquisite phrase. And the entire poem seems to me a most accurate description of the rich creative process at work in every heart, generated through all our feelings and hopes. We are participating in the birth of literally every-blooming-thing. The future of the entire universe starts right here, in this, as us.
And, Eckhart reminds us, at the same time that we’re creating, we are also that which is created. We are the music, the art, the spoken word.
We’re forever spiraling through this endless figure-eight of causation, begetting and begotten.
It can be tricky. We can lose sight of one part of the paradox or the other. As we make specific choices — defining, limiting, deciding, actualizing — sometimes we forget that we are still forever expanding into the Infinite, becoming more and more. Or, conversely, when we’re feeling expansive, we may find it challenging to pin anything down with a solid choice.
The sweetest groove is when we allow it to swing — boundless possibility becomes this particular experience, and every experience opens to new universes of possibility — choosing and opening, back and forth.
This is our individual creativity, and this is our creation together.
This weekend marks the one-year anniversary of Bosque Center for Spiritual Living. I can’t even express how proud I am of what we’ve built together, from scratch! We’ve birthed a unique community with its own energy, dynamics, and values. Now, as we move forward with what we’ve made, what we’ve chosen, there’s an opportunity for us to remember the limitless possibilities arrayed before us. What shall we do next?
If we could do anything, and we can, what would you like to do?
If you could be anything, and you can, what would you like to be?
I can’t wait to be with you this Sunday, February 3, 2019. Happy Anniversary! Service at 10:00 am. XO, Drew
